Banyana Wins WAFCON For The First Time

  Banyana Banyana are Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations champions for the first after beating Morocco 2-1 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium-Rabat, Morocco. Banyana Banyana have lost five previous WAFCON finals since 1995. Tonight victory made South Africa a third country to win Africa Women’s Cup Of Nations after Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.    Africa Women’s coach of the year Desiree Ellis made three changes to his starting lineup against Morocco. Morocco dominated the possession in the first half and overloaded their left side which forced Lebohang Ramalepe to get a yellow for a bad tackle. However, Hildah Magaia had a chance to score for Banyana in the 36th minute, but her attempt was stopped by Morocco goalkeeper after a through pass from Jermaine Seoposenwe.  Eighteen minutes into the second half Hildah Magaia open the scoresheet for Banyana after a cut back from Seoposenwe who managed to beat the Moroccan defender.   Banyana Banyana have beaten 1 - 0 Zambia to progress to Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations Finals for the second time in a row.  Desiree Ellis made three changes to his starting lineup that beat Tunisia last week against the Copper Queens.  Zambia had chance to hurt Banyana in the fourth minute of the game, but Grace Chanda attempt went wide of Andile Dlamini’s goal, as the South African goalkeeper gathered comfortably.  South Africa enjoyed the possession of the ball at  Stade Mohamed V Casablanca,  but they couldn’t create enough goal scoring opportunities against the Copper Queens who were more dangerous than Banyana when they attack. Noxolo Cesane was brought down in the 59th minute on the edge of the area, but after a VAR check, it was brought back to being a free kick. And, Jermaine Seoposenwe’s effort from the set piece was deflected behind.  Seoposenwe was fouled in the box and a VAR check was made in the stoppage time which resulted in Banyana being awarded a penalty. Official: Jele Leave Buccaneers After 16 Years

Orlando Pirates Football Club have confirmed that Happy Jele    met with the Chairman of the Club at the end of the 2021/22 season to discuss his future.  According to   Orlando Pirates website  the club has met with Jele to discuss various job options available to the long-term serving defender in a non-playing capacity.  And, a follow-up meeting was held two weeks later where the centre back expressed his intensions to continue playing football beyond the 2021/2022 season.  The 35-year-old has reached the end of his contract, and he will be leaving the Buccaneers after 16 years.  The experienced centre back arrived from the amateur club Walter Stars in 2006 as a lanky and unassuming 19 year old to join Pirates.  Jele won eight trophies, made over 400 appearances and scored 18 goals during his time at Pirates.

Banyana Qualifies For AWCON Semifinal And WC

  Banyana Banyana have booked semifinals spot for Africa Women’s Cup Of Nations and qualified for 2023 FIFA World Cup. Having lost Thembi Kgatlana due to a serious injury and some players testing positive for COVID, Banyana were able to keep their hopes of winning AWCON alive possible. Banyana had the privilege to open the scoresheet earlier in the match from Jermaine Seoposenwe after she dribbled three Tunisia defenders, but her shot was not powerful enough to beat Tunisia goalkeeper in the tenth minute of the game. However, Seoposenwe bounced back four minutes later to give South Africa a lead at Prince Moulay Abdella Stadium and the only goal of the match. Evidently, Desiree Ellis troops dominated the first half. Confirmed: SuperSport Sign Former Pirates Captain

  SuperSport United has announced  former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo on a one-year deal with an option to renew. The 32-year old reunites with head coach Gavin Hunt after a wonderful spell at Bidvest Wits    between 2014 and 2020, winning the league title as well as the Telkom-Knock Out trophy.  Hlatshwayo who is affectionately known as “Tyson” join Matsatsantsa with a wealth of experience having played over 300 domestic games and captained Bafana Bafana with just over 30 caps under his belt.  Gavin Hunt who is celebrating his 58th birthday today said: The signing of “Tyson” is a wonderful addition for the club and he comes with a lot of experience.  He added: “He was the Bafana Bafana captain as well as my captain at Bidvest Wits, we won trophies together and he's definitely ready to get working and to get going again.   Having finished Group C on top with nine points to progress to the next round of the African Women Cup Of Nations. South Africa next opposition has been confirmed. Banyana Banyana have secured a Quarterfinals spot after their second win in Group C. The 2018 AWCON runners up will face Tunisia, who finished third in Group B, in the quarter-finals. Last night, Banyana coach made six changes to her starting lineup when they face Botswana, with captain Janine Van Wyk got making her first start of the tournament, and in doing so she picked up a record of 181st cap. Banyana finally broke the deadlock against in the 80th minute, as teenage substitute Nthabiseng Majiya found the back of the net.  However, the South African team have injury concerns as Kgatlana had to leave the field on a stretcher.

  Banyana Banyana have reached the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals after winning their second Group C match against Burundi Thursday evening. Banyana Banyana mentor Desiree Ellis made four changes to the team that beat Nigeria in their opening match on Monday.  Athletico Madrid striker Thembi Kgatlana scored her first goal of the tournament in the 20th minute of the game after a swift counter by Noxolo Cesane.  Burundi didn’t waste time to find the equaliser in the 30th minute Banyana defence didn’t react on time, with Anielle Uwimana finishing from close range. However, South Africa were back in front just a minute later when Amogelang Masego Motau give the 2018 runners up their lead. Banyana had another chance to add to the scoreline just before the break when Seoposenwe was brought down inside the box, but she missed the resulting penalty, with Burundi goalkeeper making a save. Official: Hunt reunite with Matsatsantsa.

  SuperSport United has re-unite with Gavin Hunt on a two year deal ahead of the new season. Hunt joined Matsatsantsa in 2007 and led the team to a historic three consecutive league championship titles between 2008 and 2010, with a Nedbank Cup title under his belt in 2012.   He later left Pretoria based team in 2013 for Bidvest Wits and won the league title and MTN 8 trophy in the 2016/17 season as well as the Telkom Knock-Out trophy in the 2017/18 season.  The 57 years old expressed his excitement to work with young players and the challenge ahead of the new season. ”I am really excited and looking forward to the challenge ahead, especially to work with the younger players at the club and build the team to ensure the club is successful and competitive In the PSL.   Desiree Ellis praised her team last night after beating Nigeria in their opening match of Group C at Stade Moulay Hasan in Rabat, Morocco.  Ellis mentioned that a victory in the opening match of group stages was important as it build confidence and momentum.  “The first game of the tournament is always very important and what made the game bigger was that we played Nigeria. We knew we needed to get a good start that'd give us the confidence and the momentum. The players were magnificent...they executed the plan to the tee. This is a massive three points because now it sets the tone for the rest of the tournament for us,'' Ellis said. The Premier Soccer League chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has announced the new sponsor that replace Telkom knockout cup, on Tuesday afternoon. Carling Knockout Cup is the third knockout cup tournament in the Premier division. The tournament will be played by sixteen teams in December.  “Today, I’m happy to announce a new sponsor and partner, Carling Black Label,” Khoza said.  “There is a gap in our calendar, the Telkom used to be played between October and December, so we tried to find space  for our new competition. “We have agreed as a league, the Exco is aware, to launch the Carling Knockout Cup. “We’ve discovered that in and around December people need more football.   Banyana Banyana have started Women Africa Cup of Nations with a victory after beating Nigeria 2-1 at Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan Rabat, Morocco on Monday evening.  Despite not getting a goal in the first half Banyana Banyana have dominated the first 45 minutes against the defending champions. Desiree Ellis troops enjoyed the ball more than the Nigerians. Banyana captain and AC Milan midfield maestro Refiloe Jane have bossed the midfield alongside his teammates Jermaine Seoposenwe and Linda Motlhalo.  However, Nigeria created good chances but they couldn’t convert them. Andile Dlamini made the big saves against Asisat Oshoala to keep his team in the game.  Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hildah Magaia gave Banyana a lead in the 61 and 63 minutes of the game. Furthermore, Banyana could have been three nil up but the were not clinical.   Former Golden Arrows and Nedbank Ke Yona team coach Khabo Zondo has joined Royal AM. The former Bafana Bafana assistant coach replaced John Maduka who joined Royal AM rivals Maritzburg United FC. The 61 year old Zondo has previous worked as an assistant coach at Mamelodi Sundowns FC before taking charge of clubs Abafana besethende, now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic FC and Tembisa Classic FC.  Zondo was unveiled by the KZN based club along with Thabo Maloka who was working at Mathaithai FC and served as the club Physical Trainer. Moreover, Royal AM have announced four new players to the team ahead of next season. Andre de Jong from AmaZulu FC Samir Nurković from Kaizer Chiefs Ruzaigh Gamildien and Khetha Ndlovu from Moroka Swallows FC. The Kwa-Zulu Natal based team will participate in CAF Confederation Cup next season for the first time in the club history after finishing third position on DStv premiership.

  Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their technical team with the addition of Muzi Maluleke, who will work as a senior Sports Scientist and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the senior team.
