Banyana Qualifies For AWCON Semifinal And WC

Banyana Banyana have booked semifinals spot for Africa Women’s Cup Of Nations and qualified for 2023 FIFA World Cup.

Having lost Thembi Kgatlana due to a serious injury and some players testing positive for COVID, Banyana were able to keep their hopes of winning AWCON alive possible.

Banyana had the privilege to open the scoresheet earlier in the match from Jermaine Seoposenwe after she dribbled three Tunisia defenders, but her shot was not powerful enough to beat Tunisia goalkeeper in the tenth minute of the game.

However, Seoposenwe bounced back four minutes later to give South Africa a lead at Prince Moulay Abdella Stadium and the only goal of the match.

Evidently, Desiree Ellis troops dominated the first half. But, the coach made a forced substitution of Sibulele Holweni who got injured towards the end of the first-half and replaced her with Karabo Dhlamini.

Noxolo Cesane had a chance to be a hero for Banyana Banyana after missing lot of chances in the second. The midfielder couldn’t find the back of the after her teammates picked her up.

Tunisia have created good chances in the second half to equal the score against a tough Banyana Banyana side but Amanda Dlamini kept his team in the game after making crucial saves.

Banyana will face Zambia in the semifinals on Monday. Thereafter, the defending champions Nigeria will face the host Morocco.
