  Banyana Banyana have beaten 1 - 0 Zambia to progress to Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations Finals for the second time in a row.  Desiree Ellis made three changes to his starting lineup that beat Tunisia last week against the Copper Queens.  Zambia had chance to hurt Banyana in the fourth minute of the game, but Grace Chanda attempt went wide of Andile Dlamini’s goal, as the South African goalkeeper gathered comfortably.  South Africa enjoyed the possession of the ball at  Stade Mohamed V Casablanca,  but they couldn’t create enough goal scoring opportunities against the Copper Queens who were more dangerous than Banyana when they attack. Orlando Pirates Football Club have confirmed that Happy Jele    met with the Chairman of the Club at the end of the 2021/22 season to discuss his future.  According to   Orlando Pirates website  the club has met with Jele to discuss various job options available to the long-term serving defender in a non-playing capacity.  And, a follow-up meeting was held two weeks later where the centre back expressed his intensions to continue playing football beyond the 2021/2022 season.  The 35-year-old has reached the end of his contract, and he will be leaving the Buccaneers after 16 years.  The experienced centre back arrived from the amateur club Walter Stars in 2006 as a lanky and unassuming 19 year old to join Pirates.  Jele won eight trophies, made over 400 appearances and scored 18 goals during his time at Pirates.

Having lost Thembi Kgatlana due to a serious injury and some players testing positive for COVID, Banyana were able to keep their hopes of winning AWCON alive possible.   SuperSport United has announced  former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo on a one-year deal with an option to renew. The 32-year old reunites with head coach Gavin Hunt after a wonderful spell at Bidvest Wits    between 2014 and 2020, winning the league title as well as the Telkom-Knock Out trophy.  Hlatshwayo who is affectionately known as “Tyson” join Matsatsantsa with a wealth of experience having played over 300 domestic games and captained Bafana Bafana with just over 30 caps under his belt.  Gavin Hunt who is celebrating his 58th birthday today said: The signing of “Tyson” is a wonderful addition for the club and he comes with a lot of experience.  He added: “He was the Bafana Bafana captain as well as my captain at Bidvest Wits, we won trophies together and he's definitely ready to get working and to get going again.   Having finished Group C on top with nine points to progress to the next round of the African Women Cup Of Nations. South Africa next opposition has been confirmed. Banyana Banyana have secured a Quarterfinals spot after their second win in Group C. The 2018 AWCON runners up will face Tunisia, who finished third in Group B, in the quarter-finals. Last night, Banyana coach made six changes to her starting lineup when they face Botswana, with captain Janine Van Wyk got making her first start of the tournament, and in doing so she picked up a record of 181st cap. Banyana finally broke the deadlock against in the 80th minute, as teenage substitute Nthabiseng Majiya found the back of the net.  However, the South African team have injury concerns as Kgatlana had to leave the field on a stretcher.
