Broos confirm Bafana Bafana next opposition.
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed two opponents that South Africa will face in March.
South Africa hasn’t play any match since they lost 1 - 0 against Black Stars in World Cup qualifiers in November 2021 last year. Hugo Broos troops are also not taking place in AFCON tournament that’s currently taking place in Cameroon recently after be beaten by Sudan.
The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winners will face France in March during FIFA international break. The last time these two sides met was in 2010 FIFA World Cup that was held in South Africa for the first time in history of football. Bafana Bafana became victorious in that match after beating the Les Bleus 2 - 1 in Bloemfontein.
“We are playing March against France and I think against Zambia after that,” Broos told the Sunday Times.
“Those are the two matches to prepare us for the [2023] Afcon qualifiers in June. You are playing against the world champions.
“Strong opposition give you proper preparation. Even if you lose the games it is not a train smash.”
The 69 years Bafana Bafana mentor has emphasised these matches as an indication of where his team is at, and the distance he has covered since his arrival to the national.
“You can learn a lot of things and get an indication of where your team is at. Immediately you will see where the weaknesses are,” he said.
“Such games tell you the distance the team has covered. They give you something more. Maybe that is what we needed and didn’t have for the qualifiers of the World Cup. We didn’t really play tough matches.”
Even though Bafana Bafana came close to qualify for the next round of the World Cup qualifiers. Hugo Broos mandate is to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 World Cup. These two friendly matches will give Bafana Bafana opportunity to observe how readiness they are for the next qualifications.
The Belgian born coach only lost one match out of seven games he took over since he was announced as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana in 05 May 2021.
